The Chicago North shore is a unique community located just north of the city along the shores of Lake Michigan. Consistently rated one of the best places to live in America, the North Shore features world-class dining, outdoor music festivals, outstanding shopping, the very best of schools and small town warmth, yet has all the conveniences immediately available for the cosmopolitan homeowner.
Historian Michael Ebner describes the North Shore as a "genteel enclave of affluence, culture, and high society," where you can find multimillion dollar lakefront estates, architectural treasures, and historic homes, such as Frank Lloyd Wright's "prairie style" homes, built to harmonize with nature.
The Chicago North Shore is made up of several vibrant communities that include: Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Lincolnshire, Highland Park, Deerfield, Bannockburn, Riverwoods, Northbrook, Glencoe, Winetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth and Evanston. There are many great homes for sale and my MLS search feature, mortgage pre-qualification service, real estate help center and relocation resources can help you with your relocation and move.
Born with the creation of the railroad in the 1850's, Chicago's North Shore was initially a summer getaway for wealthy city dwellers trying to escape the crowds of industrialization. In the 1890's, wealthy Chicagoan's started to turn the lake front areas of the North Shore into a summer retreat, building large homes and country clubs. By the 1920's, homes were winterized, turning the North Shore into a year round community of commuter suburbs. Throughout the years, each suburb has developed its own personality, but still remain part of the distinguished North Shore community.
